So you too can sell - part one

Taken from the book by Kevin Lancaster and Lesley Bosch titled,"So you want to sell houses?"

  • If you don't promote yourself, something terrible happens - nothing.
  • It is not the giant leap of passion that build one up - but the small steps of consistent effort taken one at a time.
  • "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration."
  • Estate agent do not fail because of what they do not know, but because they do not  practice what they do know.
  • Even if you are not necessarily the best, just being available gives you a better than average chance for success.
  • For every NO you get remember you are one call closer to a YES.
  • A sense of urgency is possibly the most important attribute required of an estate agent in today's competitive environment.
  • Wherever possible point out to the seller the pitfalls of real estate, and then offer yourself as the solution.
  • None of us is as smart as all of us.
  •  The darkest hour in any man's life is when he sits down to plan how to get money without earning it!
  • Every sale begins with a listing - not all listings end in a sale.
  • It's better to under-promise and over-deliver than to over-promise and under-deliver.
  • "To do a common thing uncommonly well brings success."
  • "The best way to teach is through the eye. It is hard to retain what we hear, but a man remembers what he sees. The nerves from eye to the brain are 22 times as strong as the nerves from the ear to the brain. We get 87% of education through our eyes."
  • "If a man can write a better book, preach a better sermon, or make a better mouse trap, than his neighbour, though he build his house in the woods, the world will make a beaten path to his house."
  • Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there!"
  • "If people knew how hard I worked to gain my mastery, it wouldn't seem wonderful at all"
  • Two children were watching a clutch of chicks trying to hatch. The first chick struggled hard to get out of the shell but it persisted until it succeeded. The children couldn't bear to stand there and just watch so they decided to help the others. Sadly, only the first chick survived. The children were devastated but the wise old farmer told them "The persistence and tenacity of the first chick prepared it for life outside".
  • Service consistency, in the long run, is the great differentiator between the estate agent that prospers and the one that just marks time.
  • Imagine if estate agents were like dentists. One offers one minute of painless drilling time and another gives the client a full ten minutes of excruciating drilling pain. Both charge the same fee. If you had the choice which would you employ?
  • Great men undertake great things because they are great. Fools because they believe them to be easy.
  • "Man's mind once stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions."
  • The more you give, the more you get...
  • Some people see things and ask "why?" while entrepreneurs dream things that never were and ask "why not?"
Some quotes are by Thomas Edison, Horace Greeley, H.J.Heinz, John H Petterson, Emerson, Michelangelo, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Helen Steiner Rice,.....

Come back for part two.
